Week 27: Examples of Charity Towards Me
你哋好! This week was good. We were able to teach many member lessons. Also I did a couple of video chats with Sister Phillips and another Hong Kong Elder to practice my Cantonese. I love being able to practice speaking and hope to continue to progress and get better and better.
We were doing one of our phone lessons with a member of the ward, and she offered to buy us Olive Garden and had it delivered to our apartment. We really appreciated her offer and could not turn it down. That was the first act of charity.
The second, was by a less active lady in the ward that same night! She called us and told us to meet her at Walmart and that she wanted to buy groceries for us. So we met up with her. Trying to be as respectful and thankful to her as possible we got just what we we thought we needed. She saw our cart and then walked isle to isle with us and forced us to buy a ton more. She ended up spending a ton of money on us. It was the nicest thing ever! Great examples of Christ-like love that I won't forget.
I was reading in 3 Nephi which is my favorite book of the Book of Mormon. In Chapter 7 it talks about Nephi the prophet, and how sorrowful he was because of the wickedness of the people. But he understood his purpose as a servant of the Lord. And decided to act in faith rather than fear. In verse 18 it says "And it came to pass that they were angry with him, even because he had greater power than they, for it were not possible that they could disbelieve his words, for so great was his faith on the Lord Jesus Christ that angels did minister unto him daily." I love his example of missionary work to me. I am striving to be as faithful as he was. I know that when we "fear not, only believe" as the Savior teaches we can have angels minister to us daily and witness miracles in our lives.
