Week 33: Hong Kong Express and Amazing Devotionals
Hey everyone! This week was amazing! Lots of exciting things happened! First off our guy Liam had his baptismal interview and he passed! He is being baptized this Saturday and we are so excited for him. He is such a good man, and it has been awesome to see him progress.
We were very fortunate to have some amazing devotionals this week with just our mission. First one on Tuesday was a surprise one with Andy Reid! It was so awesome to hear him talk about his life and how he keeps his faith while being a Super Bowl champ coach. One thing he said that I loved. "Work to win, on and off the field." He said that when we are in front of people or not we want to win and do what is right and have integrity. He is such a good man, and fun to listen to.
Then on Sunday we had the Privilege of doing a zoom call with Elder Holland because his grandson got reasignned here. So he offered to talk with just our mission. For those who don't know, Elder Holland is my favorite!! He is my hero. So being able to hear him talk to specifically this mission was great! He taught some amazing things but I will share two.
He talked a lot about trials in this life and the point of them. He said "The issue is not the event or the trail, the issue is you and how you will deal with the situation, and what lessons you will learn." I loved that!
He also told us if we want to know the Savior better and gain a stronger relationship with him that we just need to think about him more and have him in our heart more. I loved that It can be that simple.
One funny thing that happend this week was Elder Call has been feeling sick and so our mission Presidents wife forced him to go get tested for COVID. The place he got tested was in the back corner of the hospital's parking lot. It was a ghetto trailer with a guy in a hazmat suit. So so funny! So we did and he had to get swabbed in his throat and nose. He said the nose one was the worst pain ever. So for me I was just dying watching him go through it.
Last, there is this random Chinese restaurant called the Hong Kong Express. Since I have been here I have wondered why tiny Warrensburg Missoui has a Hong Kong restaurant and of course I wanted to try it. So Elder Call and I went and tried it. I had to know if anyone who worked there is from Hong Kong or if anyone spoke Cantonese. No one was from Hong Kong, but apparently one of the workers speaks a little Cantonese! I got so excited when I heard that. So I am going to have to go back and see if I can talk with him and see if I can maybe teach him.
It was a tender moment for me because I haven't came in contact with anyone who speaks Cantonese on my mission so far. So for me it was a tender mercy from God, knowing that he knows me and has plan for me to be successful on my mission. So grateful to be a missionary! I hope you all have a good week!
